A U3A Talk on The Ice Age In West Dorset And East

A U3A Talk on The Ice Age In West Dorset And East

Hill Road,
Lyme Regis,

The Ice Age In West Dorset And East Devon by Jim Rose, Emeritus Professor of Geography at London University and Visiting Research Associate at the British Geological Survey. His research has attempted to understand the ways in which climate change has shaped the landscape around Lyme Regis formed in the
last 2.5 million years of what we know as ‘The Ice Age’. It will demonstrate that permafrost and melting permafrost was the most important process and that erosion of the valleys caused the land to be uplifted by about 170 metres. Evidence will also be presented to show that there is evidence for early humans in the area during short periods of temperate climate.
