How To Get To Lyme Regis

Lyme Regis is easily accessible by rail, coach, road and air. Car ferries and catamaran passenger services have good connections from France, Spain and the Channel Islands. 

By rail 

The nearest railway station to Lyme Regis is at Axminster which is six miles away. 

If you are travelling from the south east, trains are operated by South Western Railway with a direct service between London Waterloo and Exeter stopping at Woking, Basingstoke, Salisbury, Axminster and other stations.

Visitors travelling from Birmingham and the Midlands will need to change trains at Exeter. 

Visit the National Rail website to plan your journey and buy tickets in advance. 

When you arrive at Axminster, you can either catch a taxi (we recommend booking in advance) or bus numbers X51 or X53 to Lyme Regis town centre. 

By coach and bus 

National Express coaches stop at Dorchester where you can transfer to the Jurassic Coaster X51 bus to Lyme Regis. 

By road 

Routes from the north: M5, A37, A3066, A30, A358, A35 and B3165. 

Routes from the east: A30, A354, A338, A303, A31 & A35. 

Routes from the west: A30, A35, and A3052. 

If you are driving an electric vehicle, there are EV chargepoints at The Alexandra Hotel and the car parks at Monmouth Beach, Holmbush, Woodmead and Charmouth Road. 

By air 

There are regional airports at Bristol, Exeter and Bournemouth. 

The closest airport is Exeter at just over 20 miles away. Bristol is the second closest at just under 50 miles away. 

By sea 

Ferries arrive from Europe and the Channel Islands to Poole in eastern Dorset and Plymouth in western Devon. 

Plymouth Port is a 1 hour and 30-minute drive to Lyme Regis. Alternatively, you can catch a train via Axminster and then bus number X51 or X53 to Lyme Regis. 

From Poole Port it is a 1-hour drive, or train to Weymouth and then bus number X53 to Lyme Regis.
