Lyme Regis - The Cobb

A Rainy Day in Lyme Regis

“It’s raining!” Don’t groan – every cloud has a silver lining, even when you’re on holiday.  We nearly cancelled our guided walk around the town when a peak through the curtains of our Lyme Regis B&B revealed the truth of last night’s weather forecast, but in fact we’ve had a brilliant day!

The family donned its wet weather gear and off we went to meet our guide for a fascinating walk through this lovely town’s intriguing history.  If the sun had been shining, we probably would’ve stayed on the beach, doing nothing, but instead, we’ve really enjoyed discovering the hidden delights of Lyme Regis.

The kids had a great time splashing through the puddles on Marine Parade before lunch at one of the great beach front eateries.  We snuggled up behind the glass with a great view of the Lyme Regis Bay and Cobb Harbour, the kids happy with their hot chocolate, colouring-in books and pencils, us with the papers and steaming hot coffee to warm us up as we dried out over fish and chips for lunch.

Lyme Regis CinemaIn the afternoon, we went to the matinee at the Regent Cinema and chuckled our way through a newly released family friendly film we’d not had a chance to catch at home, then spent an hour browsing around the award-winning Museum, putting all we’d been told during our morning walk into perspective.  Could’ve done with longer, really, but suddenly, it was time for tea and we hadn’t had to worry about what to do with ourselves once.

Roll on the next rainy day - it’s a great opportunity to try something new, and do something differently that the whole family can enjoy.
