Author to give Suu Kyi talk in Lyme Regis
The Woodmead Halls in Lyme Regis is preparing to host a talk from respected author and Independent correspondent Peter Popham on the Burmese democracy movement leader Aung San Suu Kyi.
Scheduled to take place on March 23rd, the lecture – entitled ‘Aung San Suu Kyi: Why she still matters’ – follows the publication of Popham’s successful book, ‘The Lady and the Peacock: The Life of Aung San Suu Kyi’.
The Burma elections will be happening just over a week after Popham’s talk, and the Lyme Regis branch of Amnesty International will be hoping this unique opportunity to gain an insight into one of the most iconic figures of the modern world is well attended.
Popham has gained a reputation as a first-class international journalist over the years, having featured as an international newspaper correspondent in several areas of South Asia, including Burma. Entry to see what will no doubt be a fascinating talk is free, and includes a book signing at the end.
