Cheers to the Lyme Regis Beer Festival

Real ale lovers were out in force last weekend to support the Lyme Regis Beer Festival.

The event, which took place at the Marine Theatre in Lyme Regis on Saturday 31 March, was a great success with over 600 beer lovers supping their way through more than 2000 pints of thirst-quenching local brew supplied by the Mighty Hop and Town Mill Breweries, both based in Lyme Regis, and the Art Brewery from nearby Chideoak.

Lyme Regis Beer Festival PosterVisitors enthusiastically stood up to the challenge of sampling as many as possible of the 21 different beers and 8 ciders on offer during the course of the afternoon and evening, working up quite an appetite in the process, much to the delight of Mulberry Manor, suppliers of a mouth-watering array of pasties, and BBQ experts Higgledy Piggery – both of whom were kept very busy throughout the Festival.

Organiser Mark Jenkin, from the Mighty Hop Brewery, said ‘We’re delighted at the response to the Festival.  Everyone’s had a fantastic time and we hope that the event will now become an annual feature on the Lyme Regis social calendar’.

Of course, no festival is complete without live music and the Lyme Regis Beer Festival was no exception; several local musicians entertained festival goers throughout the afternoon and during the evening, local band Coast brewed up a real party atmosphere, with many serious beer connoisseurs lured away from their pints and onto the dance floor.

‘’It’s been a great day’, said one. ‘Good beer, good food and a fantastic atmosphere.  We’ll be back next year.’

In fact, beer lovers won’t have to wait another year for their next opportunity to sample the local brew – both the Mighty Hop and Town Mill Breweries will be showcasing their beers again during the forthcoming Lyme Regis Jazz, Blues and Beer Festival over the weekend of 25 – 27 May 2012.
