District Council to continue operating car park
The future of an important car park for visitors to Lyme Regis accommodation has been secured by an agreement reached between the town’s council and the West Dorset District Council.
The car park at Monmouth Beach has been under the control of the district council for the last decade, but concerns were raised over what would happen to it as it reached the end of this lease agreement.
The site is now guaranteed to be taken care of by West Dorset for another three years, with a new review taking place towards the end of that time.
Councillor Mark Gage, chairman of the Lyme Regis Town Council committee that was charged with resolving the matter, explained why the continuity of the car park’s current arrangement was so vital. He said that this partnership with the West Dorset District Council ensured the town’s Tourist Information Centre and public toilets were also properly funded and maintained, both of which are especially important during Lyme’s busy holiday periods.
