PM praises South West as holiday destination
Prime Minister David Cameron has suggested that the Olympic Games will be a great time to showcase the South West as the fantastic holiday destination that it is.
Mr Cameron wrote of his love for the region, and its ‘striking coastline, stunning beaches and picturesque villages’ in particular, claiming that the South West should enjoy a landmark year for tourism.
He stated his belief that the increased visitor numbers which Britain will enjoy throughout 2012 presents the perfect opportunity for places like Dorset to show the world why they are seen as such special locations.
The PM is also keen to encourage British holidaymakers to spend more of their stays in places like Lyme Regis hotels, rather than at continental resorts, which he sees as a vital tool in quickening Britain’s economic recovery.
Cameron revealed early on in his tenure at Number 10 his hope that domestic spending will increase to 50% of UK tourists’ annual expenditure, up from its current level of 36%.
