The REAL Torch Relay

Now that the official Olympic torch relay has passed through Lyme Regis, it's time to take part in the REAL torch relay at the Jubilee Pavilion on Saturday 14th July at around 12.30 p.m.

REAL torch relay 14th JulyThe REAL torch relay replicates the 8,000 miles of the original but instead of stopping overnight, these hardy torchbearers keep going through the wee hours. They started out from Land’s End at midnight on Monday 28 May and aim to reach London in time for the Olympic Games opening ceremony on 27th July.

The aim of the relay is to raise money for CHICKS - the charity providing week long breaks for disadvantaged children. Volunteers pay ten pounds each for the privilege of joining in. Rikey Austin has organised our local team which is called Team Lyme Regis.

On the REAL torch relay website Team Lyme Regis says: "Lyme Regis has got such a fabulous spirit and it's great for us as a community to show our pride by being part of the REAL relay. Our team will be bringing the torch from Chideock at around 10.40 a.m. and handing over to the next team who are going to run it to West Bay via the coastal path."

Whether you're a resident or a visitor staying in Lyme Regis accommodation, why not come on down to the sea front and cheer them on!
