Using the Internet to learn about Lyme's history
Every day several more Lyme Regis residents are following a popular Facebook page LymeRegisNostalgia which shares memories and photographs of times past in the town.
The page has attracted membership from local families, ex-pats now far away, and newcomers alike.
People post their old photos, news cuttings and memories which receive posts from members, recalling old events, identifying people depicted and arguing over dates, or just renewing old friendships from long ago.
Visitors coming in Lyme Regis may like to visit this site after they have wandered around for a day or two and find out if they can identify old buildings and views shown in the photos. They may even be able to see what their Lyme Regis accommodation looked like half a century ago!
As an interesting aside, seek the website of britishpathe.com and find /video/holiday-town. This is a video of an old fashioned look at Lyme Regis in the days when men wore their best suits to travel by train to their family holiday destinations. Visitors will be able to discover how much or how little has changed over fifty years.
