VisitEngland reports strong domestic holiday figures

A report from VisitEngland, the UK’s national tourist board, has suggested that people taking holidays within Britain has increased for the third year in a row.

Enjoy England in Lyme RegisFigures indicate that the number of people enjoying stays closer to home has hit the highest level since records began in 2006, with 2011 seeing more than 104 million trips taken by people already living in the UK.

The quality of British holidays was also praised, with 85% describing their breaks last year as either ‘excellent’ or ‘very good’.

The statistics seem to support the general consensus that people are starting to feel that exotic holidays to far-flung European or other destinations abroad are simply becoming too expensive, and that there is just as much to be enjoyed at UK destinations.

Lyme Regis hotels are sure to benefit from the improved domestic holiday market, with one leading hotelier noting that the sector must take advantage of the fortunate position of being one of the UK’s only current growth industries, and try to continue making customer’s holiday experiences even better.
