Food and Drink in Lyme Regis

Not only is Lyme Regis a fantastic town to enjoy gorgeous sea views, but its eateries also feature menus filled with locally-caught seafood and delicious local produce making the most of delicious fresh ingredients supplied by local fishermen, farms, vineyards and breweries.

Something for everyone

Lyme has a feast of gastronomic delights to suit every taste, budget and occasion. The town has many food shops, restaurants and pubs, cafes and tea rooms. No trip to the seaside would be complete without a fish and chip supper.

Visitors can enjoy fresh seafood while taking in the beautiful views across the bay, enjoy a hearty meal or Sunday roast at a welcoming pub, cosy up in an intimate Italian hideaway off a side street, and experience tastes of the world in Indian, Chinese and Thai restaurants and takeaways.

Top restaurants

Lyme Regis is renowned as a culinary hotspot of the UK. If you like fish and seafood make sure to pay a visit to Mark Hix’s Oyster and Fish House, where you can enjoy locally sourced and sustainable seafood and fish off the Dorset coast.

Recently there has also been some new restaurant openings with chefs adding some delicious options to the already established food scene with restaurants like Robin Wylde, which showcases seasonal and local food, as well as taking advantage of wild foods from the surrounding coast, hedgerows and fields.

Food Festivals

The annual Food Rocks Festival was founded by chef Mark Hix to promote Lyme Regis and the surrounding areas, by presenting some of the best food, producers and suppliers that Dorset and the south west has to offer.

The festival brings together top chefs, exhibitors, locals and those who are visiting Lyme Regis. The main stage showcases a diverse mix of interactive cookery demonstrations, talks and tastings across the weekend.

Eat: Lyme Regis is an award-winning one-day festival that brings together a great range of local producers mostly based within 30 miles of Lyme Regis. The festival promotes the best of Dorset’s produce, with entertainment, workshops and activities mixed in for an interactive day of foodie discovery.

Local producers can be found selling artisan produce like bread, preserves, cheeses, pies, sauces, fresh meat, wine, and bottled spirits, as well as an exciting range of street food with flavours from around the world using local ingredients.

Local brews

If you fancy trying a drop of the local brew then head down to the Town Mill where you can visit the Lyme Regis Brewery’s Tap Room. The brewery was founded in 2010 and over the years has crafted a selection of fine craft beers for you to taste and enjoy. There is always a great selection of beers, wines, as well as local artisan ciders to enjoy there or take home.

Throughout town there are plenty of traditional inns and family-friendly pubs to grab a drink and a bite to eat. Many of the local pubs offer local beers, ales, ciders and wines as well as outdoor seating areas for the summer months.

Tasty souvenirs

Don’t forget to buy some tasty local treats to take home and enjoy. Visit Lyme’s many bakeries and shops to pick up some delicious cakes, pasties, local ales, wines and Dorset fudge to enjoy yourself or to give to loved ones – a perfect souvenir of your trip to Lyme Regis.
