The Regent is a listed building, built in 1937 as an elegant picture house in the Art Deco style and has recently been refurbished. The cinema has a stadium type auditorium and is fitted with ‘Ultra’ surround sound.
Throughout the years the Regent has seen quieter and also very busy times but has always remained a popular attraction for visitors and locals alike. Now owned by the Scott Cinemas Group, the Regent shows a variety of films from mainstream blockbusters to others that are less well-known. They run a Silver Screen of film classics for all ages throughout the autumn and winter on Thursday mornings. The cinema is also part of the ‘Orange Wednesdays’ promotion, whereby Orange customers can get 2 tickets for the price of 1 on Wednesdays.
For those wanting art-house and more unusual films, Lyme Regis has its own Film Society. The Lyme Regis Film Society was formed in 1988 in response to local demand, because people wanted to see new films that were less mainstream. The Society proved very popular and now shows films every other Sunday throughout the winter for its members. Further information on the Lyme Regis Film Society can be found at: www.lymefilm.org.uk
