Portrait by Maria Barbashina

Portrait by Maria Barbashina

Mill Lane,
Lyme Regis,

An exciting collaboration between local artist Maria Barbashina and the Boat Building Academy. Over the last few months, Maria has painted instructors and staff in and around the workshops. Portraits include Director Tim Gedge, Instructors Will Reed, Matthew Law, Mike Broome and Bob Jennings, machinist Rob Hounslow, technician Steve Hewins, housekeeper Wendy Sartin and store-man Tom Hedger.
The exhibition focuses on Maria’s oil paintings of the faces from the Academy. Accompanying the exhibition are examples of course projects; each piece is a testament to the hard work, skill and dedication to the craft from each student. All members of the BBA staff are key elements in the experience of studying at the academy and their portraits will keep a watchful eye over the student work.
Pieces on display include a 16’ 6” Mill Creek plywood stitch and glue kayak made by 40 week boat building student, Chris Silverwood. As well as a deck chair made by Jon Ashfield, a ukulele made by Corinne Reed, a steamer trunk drinks cabinet built by Andy Staines and chairs by Alan Boyles and Mariela Reyes all from the 12 week Fine Woodworking course.
