Shopping and Markets in Lyme Regis

Lyme Regis is a picturesque seaside town on the border where Dorset meets Devon. The town is a narrow tangle of streets and shops that find their way down to the famous 13th century Cobb harbour and family-friendly beach.

The main road which runs through the town is called Broad Street, but shopping is not just limited to here. Be sure to find your way off the beaten track and explore Silver Street, Church Street and Coombe Street. And if you’re down by the seafront, there are a selection of shops running along the promenade through to Cobb Square.

Intertwined with independent shops and boutiques, you’ll recognise well-known brands such as Joules, Quba and Fat Face as well as a couple of small supermarkets. Many of the unique craft and art galleries sell unusual gifts and souvenirs – a perfect reminder of your time in Lyme.

Fossils, antiques and collectables

With Lyme Regis being one of the best places along the Jurassic Coast to find fossils, there are of course many shops in the town which sell crystals, rocks, ammonites, belemnites and various other fossils

If you want to find out more about fossils, you can visit Lyme Regis Museum down on the seafront or join one of their guided fossil walks.

Along with fossil shops, you’ll also find vintage, antique and collectable retailers – perfect for spending a few hours rummaging through these Aladdin’s caves.

Food and drink

If you’re a foodie, you’ll love shopping in Lyme’s butchers, bakers, fishmongers and delis. There is a fantastic choice in locally-produced food and you can talk to the shop owners to find out more about who produced them.

If knowing where your food has come from is important to you, you might also like to stop by the Farmers Market which is in town on the second Friday of the month.

Longing for a sweet treat? Then look no further than traditional Dorset fudge – you’ll find whole shops dedicated to this delicious confectionary with more flavours than you can imagine.

Clothes and jewellery

From stylish well-known brands to beautiful boutiques, you’ll find clothes and shoes for all ages.

Being a seaside town, there is a distinct coastal vibe to the clothing and accessories for sale – so if you’ve forgotten your swimwear, you can easily pick up what you need for a day at the beach.

The Town Mill

The Mill is the creative heart of Lyme Regis and the shops here are located around a pretty cobbled courtyard.

The mill buildings have been painstakingly restored and include a working flour watermill, as well as art galleries, artists’ studios, a café, a silversmith, a seamstress, a pottery and a micro-brewery.
